There are certain ovulation tests that you can take to determine when you are ovulating in order to increase your chances of pregnancy.
In this article, I will discuss the various ovulation tests available to you.
The Basal Body Temperature Chart enables you take your temperature every morning at the same time when you wake up. You can, then, monitor the different phases of your menstrual cycle because ovulation will increase your body’s temperature by 0.5 to 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit. When your temperature is increased for several days, it usually means that ovulation has occurred. The Basal Body Temperature Chart indicates when ovulation occurred and does not predict it, but it is helpful to plan for the following month.
You can undergo a Vaginal or Abdominal Ultrasound. This test is useful for timing intercourse or insemination. The ultrasound measures the follicle to see if it is ready for fertilization.
Urine Test Kits or Ovulation Predictor Kits measure the LH (luteinizing hormone) levels. The rise in LH is usually 12 to 44 hours later so you can use this time for intercourse.
You can also get a blood test to check the levels of the various hormones related to reproduction. The gynaecologist at the fertility clinic will conduct this test. The blood tests can measure the hormone levels, the LH levels, increased progesterone levels, oestrogen increases in the blood, plus they can measure certain hormones that are associated with fertility disorders.
An Endometrial Biopsy can determine if ovulation has occurred. It also indicates if the endometrium has been stimulated with progesterone. This is a procedure that takes place at a fertility clinic and is performed before your menstruation occurs. The fertility doctor will take a sample swab of the uterine lining which will be checked under a microscope. This procedure can also indicate if progesterone levels change less than expected.
It is important that you take note of your menstrual cycle, because if ovulation does not take place in two or more consecutive cycles then it may indicate that there is an ovulatory problem. However, if you miss one cycle of ovulation occasionally this does not necessarily indicate a problem and it could mean that perhaps you have miscalculated.
These tests can assist you with planning the insemination process or intercourse. As you get to know you menstrual cycle better, it will be easier for you to plan ahead and increase your chances of pregnancy.
