There are many causes of infertility in women and you will have to undergo much testing to figure out what it may be. One of the causes of infertility in women is a hormonal imbalance. This can be a glandular problem that you may not be aware of at first. Be sure to consult your fertility doctor if you think that a hormonal imbalance may be the cause of your infertility. The doctor may perform other infertility assessments also to rule them out.

When a woman is unable to ovulate or release an egg, the inability to ovulate is generally due to hormonal problems. These hormonal imbalances are not necessarily difficult to detect and there are treatments that are relatively straightforward. These hormonal imbalances are usually traced back to the hypothalamus, thyroid and pituitary glands. These are considered the primary glands. These primary glands produce the reproductive hormones. The hypothalamus and pituitary glands send signals to the ovaries during the reproductive process. This causes changes in the hormone production.

The hypothalamus is a gland that can be affected by your stress levels. If you experience much stress, it may not produce the correct amount of hormones that you need for reproduction. Birth control pills affect this gland which alters your hormone levels according to the pill’s cycle. Certain diseases may affect how the hypothalamus produces hormones as well as certain medications.

The thyroid gland may cause infertility when it is underactive; which causes hypothyroidism. This is characterized by excessive levels of the prolactin hormone. These extreme hormone levels interfere with ovulation.

The pituitary glands can be affected by the microscopic tumours. This causes the pituitary gland to secrete the prolactin hormone. The prolactin hormone interferes with the ovulation process.

The changes in these primary glands can lead to excess secretion of certain hormones which play a role in the ovulation and reproductive process. Such hormonal changes may cause infertility. It is worth knowing that your fertility doctor can conduct a hormonal assessment and prescribe a treatment that is specific to your condition. The treatments may include prescribed fertility drugs or ovulation induction medications.

If your body is producing too much or too little hormones, there may be hope for you to become pregnant if it is treated correctly. So don’t give up hope yet. There are many good fertility doctors that can diagnose the cause of your infertility as well as prescribe the best treatment for your body.
