There are many problems that can contribute to infertility and miscarriages in women. It is important to understand that there are different problems associated with the uterus. Therefore it is advisable to get checked by a reputable gynaecologist who can prescribe the proper treatment. This article will give you an idea of the uterus complications that can cause infertility.

Endometrial Polyps

These polyps are prevalent in infertile women about 3% to 5% of the time. It is higher in women who have other symptoms such as abnormal bleeding and could also be higher in other women with endometriosis. Polyps can be identified by a transvaginal ultrasound.

Fibroids

Fibroids can affect the reproduction process. Depending on where they are and the size of the fibroids it can cause problems for you. The most problematic area for the fibroid to be in is bulging out of the uterine cavity. This could cause an obstruction during reproduction.

Asherman’s Syndrome

Asherman’s Syndrome is a scarring condition and it can affect the cavity in the endometrial lining. There are cases where the front and the back walls of the uterus stick together. Some patients with Asherman’s Syndrome tend to have sparse or absent periods, whereas others tend to still have regular periods. This syndrome is caused by trauma, caesarean sections or genital tuberculosis.

Congenital Uterine Malformations

These developmental malformations are associated with pregnancy loss as well as obstetric complications. Generally, the ability to conceive is not affected. These malformations are not necessarily considered a cause for infertility.

Other Uterus Problems

Other uterus problems include a bicornuate uterus which is a womb that has two horns, a unicornuate uterus which is a womb that has one horn, a double uterus which is a uterus that has two inner cavities, and a separate uterus where the inside of it is divided by a septum. Generally, these types of uterus problems do not affect a woman’s ability to fall pregnant but it does it make it difficult for her to carry the baby for the full nine months.

Although there are many fertility problems that could be associated with the uterus, in most cases there are treatment options available. However, you do need to take the first step in finding out what condition you may have that is causing the infertility. If you are unsure about the condition you have and are aware that you have an infertility problem then it’s always wise to see a fertility doctor who can, then, advise what can be done to help you.
